Nigeria’s Ministry of Environment has promised to partner NatureNews online and ClimateAfrica magazine to enlighten the public on the importance of a sustainable environment.
The Minister of State for Environment, Chief Sharon Ikeazor, stated this on Friday in Abuja when the management of NatureNews online and ClimateAfrica magazine paid her a courtesy visit.
Chief Ikeazor said her Ministry was committed to showcasing the activities and policies of the Nigerian government, especially on climate change mitigation, wildlife conservation and waste management.
She said, “We are ready to partner with you and I commend NatureNews for the work you’re doing, and I urge you to study more about the environment for proper and informed reportage of the problems facing it.
“We have so many issues with the environment such as wildlife extinction, illegal logging, conservation of biodiversity, coastal erosion, pollution from industries, human waste management, carbon emission, climate change, oil spillage, etc.
“The ministry of environment is doing a lot of work to address these issues and make the environment healthy for everyone.”
Reacting, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of NatureNews and ClimateAfrica, Aliu Akoshile, said the common denominator for humanity is the environment because climate impact affects us all.
He said ClimateAfrica is the first news magazine in Nigeria, and arguably Africa, that is dedicated to reporting the environment.
While thanking the Minister for accepting the offer of partnership, the Publisher said NatureNews online is introducing a quaterly webinar series on topical issues of the environment to elicit creative solutions for sustainable living.
“We want to address critical environmental challenges facing our nation and assist the government to aggregate the solutions from relevant stakeholders,” Akoshile said.
