The Chief Growth Officer of Africa Media Initiative Center (CAMIC), Mr. Pius Alabi, has disclosed that the organisation has embarked on new campaign for recycling plastic waste at the household level.
Alabi said plastic waste has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time adding that household plastic waste is a vital measure to reduce pollution and protect the environment.
According to him , each year, millions of tons of plastic end up in landfills, oceans, and natural habitats, causing harm to wildlife and contributing to global pollution levels.
With increasing plastic pollution affecting ecosystems and human health, Alabi said that CAMIC aims to educate and empower communities to take actionable steps toward sustainability.
He listed key strategies with wish household plastic recycling could be done for environment sustainability.
The strategies include: educating households on the importance of sorting plastic waste from other types of waste, encouraging communities to find creative ways to reuse plastic items.
Giving additional details on how to achieve successful household plastic recycling, he said bottles can be transformed into planters, advocacy for the reduction of single-use plastics by opting for reusable alternatives such as cloth bags, metal straws, and glass containers, regular community clean-up events to collect plastic waste from public areas and workshops and seminars to educate the public on the environmental impact of plastic pollution and the benefits of recycling.
He emphasised that CAMIC is committed to supporting communities in their efforts to reduce plastic pollution through collaboration with local authorities, businesses, and educational institutions.
“We believe that every individual has a role to play in combating plastic pollution,” he said adding that with people’s commitment to household recycling, “We can collectively make a significant impact on our environment and pave the way for a cleaner, healthier future.”
He invites everyone to join the movement towards a greener planet saying, “Follow our campaign on social media, participate in our events, and become a part of the solution to plastic pollution. “
CAMIC is a non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability and combating climate change.
Through research, advocacy, and collaborative initiatives, CAMIC seeks to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient planet for current and future generations.
The organisation has anchored the Environmental Journalism Workshop in association with Dangote in Lagos and Yola.
Other CAMIC’s past activities includes the Tree Planting Campaign for students with Special Needs; the Jabi Lake Campaign against Plastic pollution, the Green Club Initiative and many more; in a space of less than 5 years of its existence.
